Online Exam Registration
To earn the Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper professional certificate, individuals must pass the QWEL exam.
Registration for this exam is limited to landscape professionals participating in QWEL training who work or live in San Diego County.
Exam Date/Time: On or before February 20, 2021. The exact date and time of your exam will be determined by you and the exam proctoring service. You will receive contact information in a few days following completion of this registration.
Exam Fee: $30 payable online to the exam proctoring service at the time of scheduling or date of your exam.

- What is a passing grade: 75% (75) of 100 questions correct.
- Is this an open book exam? Yes. During the exam, you may use your QWEL Reference Manual, Exam Formulas worksheet and irrigation audit exercise form (also in the Reference Manual).
- Do I need to memorize all the formulas? No. You may use the Exam Formulas worksheet.
- Will I have internet access? Only the exam will be accessible during your 3-hour exam period.
- What is exam proctoring? Proctoring is testing overseen by an authorized, neutral individual – usually an instructor -- who ensures the identity of the test taker and the integrity of the test-taking environment. Online proctoring facilitates the instructor oversight role.
- Why does QWEL require exam proctoring? The Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper professional certificate is a nationally recognized, US E.P.A-labeled designation for irrigation system audits. To earn the valued certificate and designation, exams must be completed independently by the identified test taker.
- May I retake the exam. YES! It's not uncommon for individuals to retake the exam. An additional exam fee will apply.
